Salient Advisory is a boutique healthcare consulting firm founded in 2020, with staff in Nigeria, Kenya, Morocco, South Africa, and Canada. We seek to reconstruct systems and approaches that are no longer fit for purpose in today’s global health environment. OUR EVOLUTION 

We are on a mission to build a leading healthcare advisory team focused on Africa, anchored in Kenya and Nigeria. We have grown in our first 4 years into a consulting team of 16, who provide advisory and strategy support to a small but growing group of leading organizations including: the Gates Foundation, Grand Challenges Canada, The Global Fund, MSD, Cencora, and more. The time is right to bring on another brilliant, inspiring senior leader who can help grow the depth and impact of our small-but-mighty group! 

 

ABOUT THE ROLE 

A core member of our leadership team, the Director, Advisory will oversee the execution of innovative, influential and high-impact client advisory projects. This role will report to the Founder & CEO. Key responsibilities include: 

  • Oversee the success of consulting and advisory projects, by coaching managers and team members to produce top-tier, trusted, innovative work. Provide expert guidance on strategic framing of client projects, problem solving approaches, and staff and stakeholder management. 
  • Ensure strong client, government and stakeholder relations, to strengthen the impact and reach of Salient’s work among forward-thinking executives in global health. 
  • Foster a strong, engaged and growth-oriented team that thrives collectively and individually, as they deliver on client work and meet Salient’s ambitious impact goals. Attract exceptional talent, coach and mentor staff to amplify their effectiveness in a manner that enables sustained impact. 
  • Support business development efforts to accelerate the growth and expansion of Salient’s client work across the continent. Develops and/or elevates new business opportunities through the identification of follow-on work and new leads. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A minimum of 6+ years leading a consulting team at a top-tier, global consulting firm, including 3 years managing teams 
  • Established expertise in health care, supply chain, innovation, technology, or health systems strengthening, demonstrated through publications and speaking roles in leading industry venues. 
  • Graduate degree in the fields of public health, global health, international relations, economics or a related subject. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience post graduate school.

  • Thought leadership & expertise: Bring deep sectoral knowledge and strong advice to the teams and all client interactions, driving innovative solutions that both transform health systems and the industry of global health.   
  • Cross-cultural client management: Skillfully manage key client relationships across North America, Africa and Europe. Be able to effectively frame a range of client requests and challenges, to enable teams’ execution. 
  • Team development: Advise and collaborate with outstanding project managers, overseeing the growing teams’ day-to-day analyses and problem solving, team management and client management. Lead with integrity, credibility and a relentless pursuit of excellence, ensuring delivery on our brand promise. 
  • Talent management: Hire, inspire, lead, and develop new and experienced consultants who work remotely in cross-cultural settings, and bring a range of experiences and expertise. Have a proven track-record in skill development and performance management. 
  • Organizational leadership: Strong capacity to lead in a remote, cross-cultural leadership team to grow the businesses impact. Act as a trusted team player who demonstrates intellectual curiosity, strong judgement, learning agility, self-awareness, creativity, and urgency. Coach the team to create impact in uncertain times.

We are a fully distributed global team. We do not have a head office, and all staff work remotely. This role is a remote position, however, travel up to 15% of the time may be required.  

All Salient staff, regardless of location, have salaries benchmarked against role categories equivalently.  The role is also eligible for a performance-based bonus tied to achievement of company and personal goals.
